Sons of Italy Scholarships - Frances DiMercurio Memorial Scholarship

The Sons of Italy Lodge 2456 established the Frances DiMercurio Memorial Scholarship in memory of a special woman who played an integral role in the Lodge's early success. As the wife of the Lodge's first president, John DiMercurio, First Lady Frances, better known as Fran, always supported Lodge activities.

Married for 41 years, Fran and John raised three children. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Saginaw, in 1955 and retired from Ameritech after 31 years. 

Fran's commitment to community activities was not limited to the Lodge. She was also an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, its Altar Society and the League of Catholic Women.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Applicant must be a current member or the son, daughter, or grandchild of a current Sons of Italy Lodge 2456 member. Must have been a member in good standing since January 1 of the previous year.
  • Pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or vocational studies
  • Part-/full-time enrollment
  • No student can win more than one Sons of Italy sponsored scholarship.
     EVALUATION CRITERIA (Points):

Scholastic record (25); leadership (15); awards and honors (15); student commitment as demonstrated in essay (15); extracurricular activities (10); community activities (10); recommendations (10).
