WELCOME TO THE SAGINAW COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life in Saginaw County. SCF is a unique institution. It is a permanent, yet flexible, collection of endowment funds contributed by people from all walks of life who want to give something back. The principal of these funds remain intact forever, with the income generated annually invested back into the community in the form of grants that tackle today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.

SAGINAW COMMUNITY FOUNDATION PRESIDENT RECEIVES FUNDRAISING AWARD

The Mid-Michigan Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals named Renee Johnston as the 2008 Outstanding Fundraising Executive.

Johnston, who is the president and chief executive officer of the Saginaw Community Foundation, was one of five recipients who received awards at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 6, at Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township.  The awards are given to honor individuals and institutions that drive philanthropy in the tri-city region.

“I am surprised and extremely honored to see that I am deserving enough to receive this award,” said Johnston, pictured on the right. “This award is a reflection of the staff and the services of the foundation.  I am so proud of the foundation as a whole.”

The association, which works to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs, also honored Bill and Joan McNally with the 2008 Outstanding Philanthropists award; Dominic
Monastiere, executive vice president and chief risk management officer for Chemical Bank in Midland, with the 2008 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award; and Spence Brothers, under the leadership of President and Chief Executive Officer Herb Spence, with the 2008 Outstanding Corporation award.

“Renee is a standout. She is doing a great job at the foundation because of her innovative approach,” said Rick Middleton, an AFP board member. “Even though Saginaw County has been challenged with the economy, the foundation is an engine for change.”
