Emmaus House receives $25K for distribution center

The Emmaus House of Saginaw received a $25,000 grant from the Saginaw Community Foundation to build a Community Distribution Center.

The women’s shelter will use the funds to construct a storage facility to distribute donated items of clothing and household goods for the poor in Saginaw’s inner city neighborhoods. The organization is seeking additional funds to complete the $101,400 project. So far, Champagne and Marx Excavating of Kochville Township has committed to donating $12,000 towards the effort. Community volunteers and Habitat for Humanity have also agreed to volunteer their services.

The organization plans to break ground in the spring.

“Limited space has placed restrictions on our ability to help our community,” said Sister Marietta Fritz, chief executive officer of Emmaus House.  “Our new facility will allow us to serve more people and it will give us more storage space to hold larger quantities of items. The building is important because it will serve as a symbol of hope for the people we serve. The utilization of it will be exciting because it will give people something they can call their own.”

Individuals who want to donate to the project can send donations to Emmaus House, 733 S. 14th Street, Saginaw, MI 48601.
