The free conference will provide workshops, presentations and other resources aimed at helping men and women of the Great Lakes Bay Region deal with common challenges such as choosing degree programs, academic anxiety, inadequate funding, time management, and computer inexperience.
The event will feature the following work sessions: Focusing on a Career; Money Matters; The Internet; The Balancing Act; Communicating with Confidence; and Pursuing your Education. Participants can register for three of the six free sessions and will receive a schedule upon arrival.
Attendants will also hear from keynote speaker Dr. Laura Gilbert, author of Back to School for Grownups. Gilbert wrote Back to School for Grownups in 2009 to provide a step-by-step guide for adults contemplating a return back to the classroom. The book and Web site are based off the real-world experiences and inspirations Gilbert gained from peers during her own back-to-school journeys as a single mother of four. Today, she shares her energy and insight about the adult learning experience as a university instructor, speaker and coach.
Visitors will have a chance to win prizes for attending the conference which includes two Dell laptop computers, two scholarships provided by the Employment Training Connection and a $1,000 Delta College scholarship. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided.
