According to a recent survey, 12.9% of Saginaw County residents have no health care coverage and an additional 12.8% of county residents had no health care access in the past 12 months due to high cost. Saginaw Community Foundation has partnered with the Saginaw Health Plan (SHP) to remind eligible Saginaw County residents that free help is available. In order to qualify for potential income tax breaks under new federal health care laws, residents must sign-up by March 31.

“Saginaw Health Plan and our partners are going into high gear to make sure people can get health coverage by March 31 so they qualify for tax subsidies designed to help ordinary families get access to affordable health insurance,” said Linda Hamacher, president of Saginaw Health Plan. “This is a critical opportunity to help many families who have struggled to get coverage, so we want to make sure that everyone knows they can get free help from a trusted, reliable source.”

SHP is urging residents to call (800) 232-0503 to set up an appointment to get more information or for help enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace. Residents can also set up appointments and get assistance at Health Delivery Inc. at (989) 921-5353. Appointments are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

SHP is a community-sponsored program for eligible residents in Saginaw County and is one of the lead organizations assisting in enrolling people under the federal Affordable Care Act.
