Recently, Becky Gerzseny, director of finance at Saginaw Community Foundation, received certification as a Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP). The eight-week course facilitated by the FMA Institute is the only nationally recognized certification program for nonprofit accounting professionals.

“This certification program allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the accounting practices of our nonprofit agency partners as compared to the accounting practices of a community foundation,” said Gerzseny. “With the training I received, I will be able to provide proper financial guidance to our nonprofit agency partners to help aid in their success.”

In addition, Gerzseny learned various tips and strategies to assist in the day-to-day financial management of Saginaw Community Foundation in the areas of financial reporting, internal controls, budget development and governance.

“By implementing industry best practices learned as part of the CNAP certification,” Gerzsey said, “I will be able to further support a sound financial infrastructure at Saginaw Community Foundation and continue to ensure we are acting as good stewards of our donor’s gifts.”
