The Finance Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and clerical activities that support the financial function of the Foundation. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical as there is a considerable amount of data entry. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Receive and enter invoices, prepare checks, and pay office bills.
• Accounts payable
• Assist with Month-end and Annual Audit procedures.
• Prepare and file 1099’s, 1098’s etc.
• Assist with/prepare for/attend regular SCF Finance and Investment Committee meetings.
• Prepare meeting minutes for SCF Finance and Investment Committees.
• Assist with the distribution of Fund Statements to appropriate fund representatives.
• Provides additional support to the Director of Finance as required, including special projects.
• Follow-up with donors/agencies, as necessary.
• Perform regular updates/clean-up activities on database.
• Make bank deposits and enter gifts/donations

 

Qualifications

• Minimum of associates degree, or the equivalent, in finance or accounting preferred.
• Experience in a nonprofit, fund accounting or Foundation environment is preferred, but not required.
• Accurate math skills and a basic understanding of good accounting practices.
• Strong computer background, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to perform responsible clerical work requiring independent judgment with speed and accuracy, with a minimum of immediate supervision.
• Highly organized, responsible and energetic. Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with meticulous attention to detail, use initiative, work independently and solve problems.
• Ability to plan workload and maximize resources.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports.
• Ability to relate well and communicate effectively and pleasantly with the public.
• “Team player” attitude is critical.
• High degree of flexibility and willingness to work until the job is complete.
• Commitment to excellence and pride in own work.
