The Saginaw Community Foundation offers several competitive grants programs described below.

Grant Programs

Discretionary Grants
Application deadlines: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1
All-purpose grants program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of nonprofit organizations. The typical maximum grant is $10,000.

Saginaw County Youth FORCE Grants
Application deadlines: Feb. 1 and Nov. 1
A grants program for projects that directly benefit young people. Generally, the maximum grant awarded is $10,000, although the typical award is $2,500. Priority is placed on projects that:
   • Include youth in the planning and implementation
   • Empower youth and increase their awareness of community issues
   • Are first-time funding requests

YWCA Fund for Women & Girls Grants
Application deadlines: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1
A grants program for projects and programs that benefit women and girls of Saginaw County. The maximum grant is $5,000.

Senior Citizen Enrichment Fund
Application deadlines: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1
A grants program created to assist programs supporting charitable purposes that benefit the elderly in Saginaw County. A priority for this fund is to assist programs and projects that enhance the quality of life for those seniors maintaining an independent residence.


communityGives - The Dow Chemical Company
Application deadline: Ongoing

The communityGives component of DowGives creates an opportunity for elementary, middle school and high school groups, sports teams and service clubs in the Great Lakes Bay Region to earn funding for priority projects through volunteerism. This is accomplished through the giving of grants to K-12 age groups that complete a preapproved community volunteer activity and meet grant requirements. The total grant amount is $1,000. Dow is collaborating with the Midland Area Community Foundation, the Bay Area Community Foundation and the Saginaw Community Foundation for grant implementation and administration.

Impact 
By promoting volunteerism amongst today's elementary, middle and high school age youth, communityGives emphasizes the importance and value of community engagement to our region's youth and promotes a sense of community, along with a desire to give back. To qualify for the grant, the volunteer activities must take place in the Great Lakes Bay Region and meet other eligibity requirements detailed in the application.

Eligible Groups 
   • Must be youth in the K-12 age range located in Bay, Midland, or Saginaw County.
   • Must be affiliated with a 501(c)(3) or school district (public or private)***
   • Must complete an approved Volunteer Activity within 12 weeks of applying for the grant
   • Must show demonstrated need

Dow Corning Donor Advised Fund
Application deadlines: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1

To submit a grant for consideration by the Dow Corning Foundation Donor Advised Fund:

    1. Contact Kendra Kempf at the Saginaw Community Foundation at (989) 755-0545 with your grant request information. Be sure to mention your request is for the Dow Corning Foundation Donor Advised Fund. Click here to review sample grant application.  

    2. If the request meets the initial criteria, the community foundation will issue a grant number which should be recorded on the grant application when it is submitted. The foundation will also provide information on where to address electronic submission of the grant.

    3. Complete the formal grant application and submit electronically to the community foundation.

Grant requests must:

  • Show alignment with Dow Corning Foundation vision and mission.
  • Be given to organizations with 501(3)C status.
  • Be given to organizations within the U.S. (both regional and local).

The Dow Corning Foundation demonstrates Dow Corning Corporation's commitment to innovation and collaborative, mutually sustainable growth in society and our local communities through grants. The foundation provides local grants up to $5,000 and regional grants up to $15,000.

The mission of the Dow Corning Foundation is to:

  • improve scientific literacy through increased access to math, science and technology education
  • improve vitality and quality of life in communities where Dow Corning employees work and reside
  • improve awareness and increase utilization of sustainable, innovative technologies to benefit society

The community foundation and Donor Advised Fund committee will review your application thoroughly. Reviews occur every quarter. You will be contacted by the community foundation directly when a decision is made. Please take a look at our basic guidelines for grant requests before submitting.
