The Evelyn Faye Spates Memorial Scholarship was established by her mother Leona Clark-Spates, sister Delena Spates-Allen and nieces ShaRease Price and BreAna Allen, to enable a deserving young person to pursue his/her education endeavors in the field of Education.

 
Evelyn was born on May 8, 1963 in Saginaw, Michigan. She attended Saginaw Public Schools, including Jones, Jessie Loomis, Webber Junior High and graduated in 1981 from Saginaw High School. After graduation, Evelyn received undergraduate degree in Special Education from Grambling State University. Later, she earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of St. Thomas Minnesota and was pursing a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership prior to her going home to be with the Lord. Evelyn was an ordained minister and loved God very much. She expressed and had a deep love and commitment of God, her family, friends and her students through her actions. Always interested in lifelong learning, Evelyn instilled into her nieces the importance of keeping God first in their lives and being educated. She always inspired them to always read and to pursue a college education.

 

Qualifications

● Minimum 2.5 GPA
● Resident of the Saginaw Public School District
● Graduating senior from a Saginaw Public high school
● Pursuing an undergraduate degree in general education
● Full-time enrollment
