The Frank N. Andersen Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of longtime Saginaw philanthropist Frank N. Andersen. As a community benefactor, Mr. Andersen was responsible for many projects that enhance the quality of life throughout the Saginaw area. Community projects such as the Andersen Water Park, Andersen Enrichment Center, Tobico Marsh Wildlife Refuge, and Covenant HealthCare’s Andersen Center, as well as many other civic organizations, benefited from Mr. Andersen’s advice, vision, leadership and financial support.

Mr. Andersen was only 12 when his widowed mother’s death forced him to drop out of school and support himself. His determination to succeed and his willingness to work long, hard hours at strenuous jobs led to his ultimate success and shaped his philosophy of helping others.

Mr. Andersen’s philosophy was evident in his favorite phrase, “Others – Let this my motto be,” and he counted helping children as one of his proudest accomplishments. Although Mr. Andersen died in 1997, at the age of 108, his proud tradition carries on through these scholarships.
