Holland Scholarship

In categories: Scholarships

July 24, 2012

The Holland Scholarship is a result of one person’s love for music and students. Merle Holland Leis Frenzel was a 1954 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She graduated with a degree in music education from Capital University and returned to Saginaw to teach choral music at North Junior High and then Arthur Hill High School. Later she received her counseling degree and completed her career in that field, retiring in 1997.

Her friends and former students held a “Miss Holland’s Opus-54” surprise party upon her retirement. Their generous tribute and monetary contributions made this scholarship possible. It is hoped it will encourage others to pursue their dreams and  pass on the joy of music to others.

The Holland Scholarship is dedicated to Norton and Virginia Holland, parents of Merle Holland Leis Frenzel, for their encouragement, love and support.
