The Saginaw Black Nurses Association (SBNA) is the local chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc. SBNA was established in 1971. From its origins, SBNA has been dedicated to improving health outcomes for those who are underserved or who face barriers in access to health care.

 

The mission of SBNA is to provide a forum for collective activities by a group of nurses to “investigate, define and determine the health care needs of our community and to implement change to make available to the community health care that is accessible and acceptable.” SBNA provides health education for, and with, the community to support health promotion and disease prevention, and to empower individuals and families for self-care, and they are committed to collaborative efforts with private and public agencies and organizations which share common concerns for improving the health status of all people.

 

This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in a human medical-related field (nursing, medical school, psychology, dental, physical therapy, pharmacy, CMA, CNA, phlebotomy, etc.)

 

 

Qualifications

● Minimum 2.5 GPA
● Pursuing an associate or undergraduate degree in any human medical field
● Michigan resident
● Part-/Full-time enrollment
● Current college student or graduating high school senior
 
 

 
 

Evaluation Criteria

Career goals as demonstrated in essay (30); academic performance (20); leadership ability (10); financial need (10); community service (10); overall involvement in work, school and community activities (10); letters of recommendation (10).
