The Gary R. Bierlein Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 in memory of Saginaw businessman Gary R. Bierlein, who was tragically killed in an airplane crash. Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 are awarded to students attending Saginaw Valley State University and are involved in extracurricular activities both in their schools and in their communities. A lifelong resident of Saginaw, Gary also attended Saginaw Valley State University. Patricia Bierlein established the scholarship in memory of her husband.
“Outside involvement is something Gary always found important. He felt a sense of dedication to the community and was grateful for what the community gave him,” Patricia said.
