Guadalupe “Lupe” Gomez Memorial Scholarship

The Guadalupe “Lupe” Gomez Memorial Scholarship was started by Lupe’s family shortly after she passed away on March 1, 2009.

 

Lupe was the secretary at the Saginaw Board of Education and Arthur Eddy Junior High School for 15 years. During her time at the school, Lupe touched the lives of many students. She also was the secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church for two years and UAW GM Legal Services for 12 years. She was the first secretary for Tri-City SER and was also the first Hispanic person elected to public office in Saginaw County serving 12 years on the Chesaning Union Schools Board of Education. Lupe also was a member of the Union Civica Mexicana for many years. She loved to travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and any place that had a casino. She enjoyed fishing, singing to her grandchildren and frequent family cookouts, even in the winter.

 

This scholarship will be awarded to a student that best demonstrates the hard working, self-motivation that best describes Lupe.

 

Qualifications

● Graduating senior from any school in Saginaw County
● 2.5 – 3.0 GPA  
● Pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, associate degree or Career and Techincal Education (CTE) training (skilled trade/vocation)
● Part- or full-time enrollment

Evaluation Criteria

Overall involvement in work, school and community activities (30); financial need (25); interview (25); academic performance (15); ACT (5).
