The Larry Laeding Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Larry Laeding and to give graduating seniors from the Saginaw Public Schools financial assistance in pursuing their educational goals. Mr. Laeding began his teaching career in Elmwood, Illinois in 1935.

He came to Saginaw in 1939 as the basketball coach at Saginaw High School, where he also taught chemistry. In 1962, he was named the Director of Athletics and Physical Education for the Saginaw Public Schools. One of Mr. Laeding’s priorities was to bring equity to women’s athletics.
