The Robert Dale Urbain Memorial Scholarship was established by his friends and family in remembrance of Rob’s passion for education and the giving life he embodied. The recipient of this scholarship will have a passion for education and be a graduate of St. Charles Community Schools.

Robert Dale Urbain grew up in St. Charles, Michigan and attended St. Charles Community Schools. After college, Rob was a middle school teacher and a boys and girls basketball coach at St. Charles Community Schools. As a coach, Rob possessed a gift of motivating each individual to achieve, far beyond the limits the individual had allowed to form within themselves. He left St. Charles Community Schools to advance his career in education. He went on to become a principal at Rose City Elementary, Resse Puffer Middle School, Prudenville Elementary and Houghton Lake Middle School. He also taught Introduction to Teaching at Kirtland Community College. He was a lifelong learner and educator. His unique ability to connect with everyone left lasting impressions on all he taught and worked with.

Rob treated all students with respect. He challenged students to be their best every day. Rob was an amazing role model for the students of St. Charles Community Schools. Rob remained a mentor and friend to many of his students long after he left his teaching position in St. Charles. He was always available with a listening ear, practical advice and encouragement. He was genuinely interested in helping others.

As part of Rob’s competitive nature, he was always up for a game of cards. His desire to win was always present in whatever the game of the day was. His love of competition was not over shadowed by his love of friends and family. Each day was topped off with everyone enjoying a home cooked meal and sitting around the table to spend time together. Those closest to him will always miss his competitive nature, desire to win and compassion to educate others. He always made time to lend an ear or open his home to any and all. It was truly an honor to have been blessed by this great man.
