Ruth Mitchell Hanson Scholarship

August 2, 2012

The Ruth Mitchell Hanson Scholarship was established to assist talented Saginaw County students in their pursuit of a career in music.

Ruth Mitchell Hanson was a talented composer and accomplished pianist, although most of her work was heard only by her friends and family. She was an elementary school teacher and a music instructor. Ruth also was a nationally recognized rifle competitor. She was the only female on the renowned Camp Perry Rifle Team. For more than 30 years she was active in teaching youth gun safety and shooting at the Saginaw Gun Club. She and her late husband, Stuart G. Hanson, were avid firearms collectors. Although firearms were of great interest to Ruth, her passion was music. This scholarship is intended by her friends to create a perpetual memory of Ruth’s extraordinary talents.
