The Ken & Ellen McAllister Scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of Ken and Ellen McAllister, strong advocates for higher education.

Ken McAllister was the middle of three sons. He attended Arthur Hill Technical High School. His technical training led to positions in the Saginaw Valley with Wickes Corporation, Hern and Dilts Company and B & K Corporation. His dedication to learning was advanced while earning both mechanical and electrical journeyman cards.

Ellen McAllister was the second of ten children and the oldest daughter in her family. She attended the original Saginaw High School until illness among younger siblings caused her to stay home to help tend to their health needs. While she was unable to pursue her dream of becoming an English teacher, she later earned her G.E.D. and worked at the Saginaw County Court House for 21 years.

Interested in lifelong learning, Ken and Ellen instilled that philosophy and love in their children and inspired each to pursue a college education. This scholarship honors and continues to keep alive Ken and Ellen’s legacy of advocacy and commitment to the value of higher education.
